SGM Sixpack ‘the business’ for Fluid (4/11/16)

SGM Sixpack for Fluid Productions

Nick Goulden is the Proprietor of Fluid Productions based in Sydney. Nick is an experienced Lighting Designer, Operator and an all round quality guy. Being a quality guy means using only quality lighting tools for all of his jobs with this notion flowing through to everyone; from clients to crew.

SGM Sixpack

Nick recently purchased 12 x SGM SP6 Sixpacks for production inventory at Fluid. I’ve fallen in love with the Sixpacks, their aesthetics, intensity, and finesse of colour-mixing are a combination that I’ve not found in any other fixture.”

The SGM Sixpack is an unique pixel array fitting based on the popular blinder, but by replacing the traditional halogen bulb with RGBA LED source it can achieve so much more. The fixture combines six outputs of powerful 40W colour mixing with built-in electronics, and individual DMX control over each lamp, allowing the creative Lighting Designer to explore the extensive programmability of the fixture.

Nick comments on the aesthetic of the Sixpack. “As a designer I don’t like the look of separate individual LEDs; particularly for anything that the audience and camera can see. With the gorgeous 60mm collimating lens on the Sixpacks, I received nothing but compliments.”

SGM Sixpack

The Sixpack boasts a total light output of 4,800 lumens at 20 lm/W and weighs only 10kg each. The intensity and colour-mixing are phenomenal. On both counts the closest fixture I’ve used would be the Colour Force (Chroma-Q), however they are a huge, heavy, individual colour-mixing led source.” said Nick.

Nick is also receiving fantastic feedback on the Sixpack from his clients and this is assisting him in gaining additional work. As we all know, the producers of theatre and performance can be extremely particular with colour representation of their work, but this has been no problem for Fluid with their SGM Sixpacks.

“Michael Campbell, the producer/director of the Faces Of Mercy performance (see images) in the Crypt of St Mary’s Cathedral was incredibly particular of his colours. Across the hour long performance we had over 20 shades of blue alone. The RGBA chip gave me the flexibility and finesse required for the task, and made my job a whole lot easier! The ability to create a true steel blue on sandstone blew me away.”

Nick also draws attention to the smooth electronic dimming in the Sixpack.

“Another thing to note is the dimming on the fixture, there were times where we had a 1 minute fade. You couldn’t see by eye or by camera a steppy fade out at all.”

“This all wrapped up by the fact they are IP65 rated is just ‘the business’. I’d like another four!”

Awesome job Nick!
